About the LinuxAPUS distribution on AFCD40
==========================================
This is cut down distribution of RedHat PPC plus the Amiga-specific
parts from the LinuxAPUS project.
Directories
-----------
LinuxAPUS: this contains the APUS linux kernel, the APUS bootstrap and
the ramdisk images needed to install RedHat. You can either
boot Linux directly from the CD or install the stuff here
to your hard drive with the install script provided. Also
provided here is the APUS and Linuxm68k FAQs (the APUS
kernel is derived from the m68k one).
RedHat: the RedHat package archives are here. The RedHat installer
will not recognize this CD as a proper install CD.
Therefore you must copy this complete directory to a
temporary place on your hard drive (it's about 150MB
large). It is important that you do not alter the
directory's name: it must be called RedHat. Then you
must select 'install from HD' in the RedHat installer
and tell it where you copied the packages. For
example, if the packages are in the third partition of
your on your first IDE hard drive in a directory
called Temp/RedHat you would select drive /dev/hda3/
and path /Temp/ (remember Linux is case sensitive).
Misc: bits and bobs to make RedHat PPC work on an Amiga (all of
which must be installed by hand).
amiga-gb.map - uk keymap
fbset-1999018.tar.gz - tool to configure the amiga frame
buffer device
XF68_FBDev-ppc-19981017.gz - X-server binary for the amiga
frame buffer device.
Also here is the kernel source for the kernel provided. The
kernel provided has no modules, so will need to be
configured and rebuilt for, e.g, ppp and ethernet support.
